Ukraine Crisis: How Can You Help

Location: Ukraine, Kyiv
Date: March 15, 2022

The Coalition For Women In Journalism extends support and solidarity to women and LGBTQ+ journalists in Ukraine. Following weeks of escalating tensions, Russia launched a full-scale military invasion of Ukrainian territory on February 24, 2022. The military operation comes amid growing NATO influence in the Eastern European region and Western sanctions on Russia to deter its state from escalation against Ukraine. After several months of diplomatic engagements failed, President Vladimir Putin announced an “operation” to “protect people who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years”.

As is often the case with neo-imperial plans of occupation, the explicit motivation is flimsy and baseless. Putin’s move has garnered widespread condemnation from much of the world as well as criticism from its own citizenry. The aggression has gone on unabated, however, for several weeks.

In these times journalists in Ukraine need our solidarity.

Women Journalists On The Ground

CFWIJ compiled a list of women journalists on the ground reporting from Ukraine amid the destruction, injuries, and limited resources. We appreciate their hard work and extend our support.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism is a global organization of support for women journalists. The CFWIJ pioneered mentorship for mid-career women journalists across several countries around the world and is the first organization to focus on the status of free press for women journalists. We thoroughly document cases of any form of abuse against women in any part of the globe. Our system of individuals and organizations brings together the experience and mentorship necessary to help female career journalists navigate the industry. Our goal is to help develop a strong mechanism where women journalists can work safely and thrive.

If you have been harassed or abused in any way, and please report the incident by using the following form.
