Mesopotamia News Agency Dersim correspondent Ayşe Sürme and Jinnews reporter Öznur Değer were subjected to physical violence late last night while filming a fight between family members in the central district.

Last night at around 01:00 AM (Turkey time) Ayşe and Öznur heard a woman screaming and went to document the fight. Ayşe and Öznur were then attacked and threatened by those involved in the fight. Öznur’s phone was also confiscated by angry family members urging her to delete the video.

Other reporters on ground broke off the attack and had Öznur’s phone returned to her.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism would like the public to know that reporting is for the benefit of the whole society, attacking journalists for doing their jobs is unacceptable.
