The 14th hearing of the trial against journalist Kibriye Evren over her journalistic activities was held today in Diyarbakır. The journalist was sued over allegations of being a member of a terrorist organization and spreading its propaganda. The court rejected the lifting travel ban of Kibriye and adjourned the hearing again. The next hearing will be on February 22, 2022. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) considers these lawsuits are attacks on press freedom. We demand the immediate lifting of judicial control measures against journalist Kibriye Evren and the acquittal of the journalist.

Mahkeme, gizli tanığın SEGBİS ile dinlenmesi için tekrar yazı yazılmasına karar vererek, bir sonraki duruşmayı 17 Şubat 2022'ye erteledi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak gazetecileri sindirmek amacıyla sürekli ertelenen davaları kınıyoruz. Gazeteci Şerife Oruç’a dair derhal beraat kararı verilmesini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: Hopes Dwindle In Journalist Şerife Oruç’s Case Who Has Been Battling For Justice For More Than Five Years
The trial against the former Dicle News Agency (DİHA) reporter Şerife Oruç was once again adjourned by the judge. The court has been ruling for the same reason as the previous hearings. Şerife has been battling for justice for more than five years and there is no verdict yet from Batman’s court. The next hearing will be held on February 17, 2022. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) denounces the legal harassment that has been ongoing against journalists. We demand an immediate acquittal of Şerife Oruç.
Türkiye: CFWIJ, Roza Metina'nın Terör Suçlamalarından Yargılandığı Davada Beraat Etmesini Memnuniyetle Karşılıyor
JinNews'in Kürtçe haber editörü ve Kürt PEN üyesi Roza Metina, Diyarbakır 5. Ağır Ceza Mahkemesi’nde görülen duruşmada tüm asılsız suçlamalardan beraat etti. Demokratik Toplum Kongresi (DTK) ve kapatılan Kürt Yazarlar Derneği'nin delegesi olduğu iddiasıyla davanın üçüncü duruşmasında karar çıktı. Roza, evinde bulunan yasaklı kitapları bulundurmakla da suçlanmıştı. Mahkeme, gazetecinin silahlı terör örgütüyle bir ilişkisinin bulunduğuna dair herhangi bir kanıt bulunmadığını belirterek, Roza hakkında beraat kararı verdi.
Turkey: CFWIJ Welcomes Roza Metina’s Acquittal From Sham Terrorism Charges
Roza Metina, the Kurdish news editor for JinNews and member of Kurdish PEN, was acquitted of all baseless charges on Tuesday by the Diyarbakir 5th High Criminal Court. The judgement came on the third hearing of the trial based on accusations of being a delegate of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and the now shuttered Kurdish Writers Association. Rozaa was also charged with possession of banned books found at her house. The court acquitted Roza stating there is no proof that she did anything wrong being a member of an armed organization. The verdict also ordered the authorities to repeal all judicial control provisions imposed on her.
