Local paper The Reporter is taking legal action against the Delaware County Board of Supervisors in New York over a “gag order” on county employees speaking to the publication.

A video has gone viral in which a male passerby can be seen harassing News 12 journalist Noelle D Lilley as she reports from the streets of New York. Noelle took to Twitter to express her discomfort and rage at the incident and received support from her colleagues. Several women journalists shared that they have faced similar incidents, shedding light on how prevelant sexual harassment of women journalists in the field is.

Journalist Sandi Bachom was targeted with hate speech after sharing her criticism about the anti-Covid-19 vaccination on social media. An anti-vaccine supporter sent her a hateful email questioning her profession and insulted the journalist with misogynistic messages. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is utterly dismayed by the hate speech against Sandi. We stand in solidarity with Sandi on this matter and demand a prudent approach to journalists working in perverse conditions during the pandemic.

Tucker Carlson attempted to underplay the violence that women journalists face by targeting The New York Times reporter, Taylor Lorenz. The day after the International Women’s Day, Loren took to twitter to urge her audience to believe women who come forward with allegations of sexual harassment, citing the emotional toll such experiences has taken on her.

Investigative journalist Lindsay Nielsen revealed that she faced threats and damaging harassment by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration. Later, the journalist decided to leave News10, giving the fact that the attacks she faced were one of the reasons for leaving her job. We stand with her and appreciate the journalist’s dedicated work and effort by the time she came across mistreatment from the governor’s team.

Freelance photographer Chae Kihn was arrested by New York Police Department (NYPD) while covering an anti-Trump demonstration. The Coalition For Women In Journalism finds these arrests as tactics of suppression and intimidation against journalists who are simply doing their jobs.
