Egypt: Oppression Escalates By Putting Another Woman Journalist In Jail. Journalist Naglaa Mohamed Is In Pre-Trial Detention In Egypt.

After a week of enforced disappearance, journalist Naglaa Mohamed of Daarb news website appeared in the supreme national security Prosecution office. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is appalled by the constant aggression towards women journalists and press freedom in Egypt.
Naglaa was apparently arrested on September 15, 2020, and her whereabouts were unknown to her lawyers or family members. After a week of enforced disappearance, she appeared in the supreme National security prosecution office and was interrogated pending case no.880\2020 and was ordered 45 days in pre-trial detention. Naglaa is facing charges of joining a prohibited terrorist group and using Facebook to commit a crime.
The Arab network for human rights reported Naglaa's disappearance and her health condition to the prosecutor's office in a report no.6057\2020. Naglaa has special needs as she has a certain disability in her hand and legs and she needs regular medical supervision. Naglaa’s family has also sent several telegrams to the prosecutor's office and minister of interior reporting her disappearance and special medical needs.
Naglaa is a journalist in Daarb news and she is a writer and researcher in many other websites and organizations.
The Coalition For Women In Journalism is regularly issuing alerts regarding press freedom and arbitrary pretrial detention in Egypt. CFWIJ is appalled by constant infringements of free speech and aggressions on women journalists by Egyptian authorities. Naglaa’s arbitrary detention is a new milestone in the deterioration of press freedom in Egypt. We urge the Egyptian authorities to release her immediately.
The CFWIJ strongly condemns the police brutality against journalists. We demand the immediate return of the press cards seized from the security forces. Policies to intimidate journalists should be abandoned, and journalism should be practiced under the criteria of freedom of the press.
